My hope during sabbatical is to greatly expand the number of posts I create this summer – this being my first. I won’t refer to “Bohemian Rhapsody” in every post, but I’ll try to consider the following as I share information with you all: What advice will I give him? What have I shared with him so far? What did my parents share with me before I left for college? What did I wish my parents had shared with me? What other advice did I wish I had listened to from other friends and family over the years? What did I wish I had shared when the boys were younger that I need to share now? Too many questions and too few answers. The smile, bond and hug between the father and son starts water works for me each time - even thought I know exactly what's coming.Īs I alluded to above, there are many benefits and opportunities offered by my company. I’m in the middle of one of them right now – a sabbatical every five years. My original goal of posting stories about “Lessons Learned for my Sons” was: Since that screening, I’ve watched the movie another 10-12 times as I’ve traveled around the US. Even if I can’t watch the full movie, I find myself drawn to one scene near the end that brings me to tears EVERY TIME. (No spoiler alert here). When Freddie Mercury says goodbye to his family before the Live Aid concert, he turns to his father and repeats the words his father used to him many years earlier as a maximum to their religion – “Good Thoughts, Good Words, Good Deeds”. (Note: In Zoroastrianism, their religion, the words are Humata, Hukhta, Huvarshta). Some historians believe that the Three Wise Men (Magi) who visited Jesus after he was born were Zoroastrian priests. If you haven’t had a chance to watch “Bohemian Rhapsody” yet, rent/stream/borrow/buy it and take two hours to enjoy it thoroughly. I’m grateful to my employer, Pariveda Solutions, for the many different opportunities presented to me in my nearly six years there. I’ll be discussing one of those opportunities in another paragraph or two. But another huge benefit is celebrating the collaboration of our local teams’ successes on a quarterly basis. Our celebration event, late last year, was a private screening of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The music was amazing, the story was enjoyable and the interactions among the band and their followers was highly entertaining. Each Yazata is "worthy of worship" and also stands for a part of the creation. These seven sparks are helped by many "lesser principles", the Yazatas. Each of them represents a part of Ahura Mazda's creation. When Ahura Mazda created everything, he made seven "sparks", called Amesha Spentas ("Bounteous Immortals"). In this way, the Creator interacts with the world. Through Spenta Maniu, Ahura Mazda is in all humans. All good things are represented by Spenta Mainyu, the good spirit which Ahura Mazda created. When this happens, everything that Ahura Mazda created will be together with him again - even the souls of people who died or who were banished.Īll bad things in the world are represented as Angra Mainyu, the "Destructive Principle". They do not believe people should live on their own to find God (for example, in monasteries). This active life is the basis of what Zoroastrians call free will. People also need to do these things in order to be happy. Have good words and good thoughts for others.Everything in the universe is part of this conflict, including humans. There is a conflict between order (which he created) and chaos (or disorder). Zoroastrians worship only him.Īhura Mazda created everything.
